Spurious Serum alkaline Phosphatase Level after albumin Infusion

Abstract

Markedly increased serum ALP(alkaline phosphatase ) values were not infrequently observed when we checked the daily delta and panic values of chemistry results. The high enzyme level was traced to albumin infusion. So we checked the commercial
albumin
and knew that there were high concentration of placental ALP in commercial human albumin.
The presence of large amount of placental ALP in commercial albumin is not widely known to the clinicians, so it leads the erroneous interpretation of the results. Manufactuers should notify the compositions of their products.
